In order for skin to maintain a more youthful appearance, refraining from the following would be advised:

• Tanning Beds. The World Health Organization has classified tanning beds as a known carcinogen.  Exposure may accelerate wrinkles, skin cancer, as well as promote hyperpigmentation (dark spots).

• Using moisturizers on oily skin.  If your skin is oily, skip the moisture and just use sunscreen during the daytime.  Everyone’s skin feels tighter after cleansing.  It takes about 30 minutes for oil glands to replenish the skin.  You will know if you need added moisture after 45 minutes.

The effects of increased cell turnover can be very irritating and flaking.  For this reason, many people stop using Retin-A after a couple of days to weeks, believing that it didn’t work.  It is important to realize that Retin-A is very effective for whiteheads and blackheads but it may take 6-9 weeks to see a noticeable difference.  It takes at least 6 months to see a noticeable difference in wrinkles.  The best benefit is seen if Retin-A is used for at least a year.

Below are just a few guidelines that may make it easier to take this great medicine:

• Apply Retin-A in a thin layer at night. A small amount goes a long way
• In the morning, wash your face with a mild facial scrub or rough wash cloth. This will help reduce the noticeable flaking
• After washing, apply a good water-based moisturizer. The moisturizer will make the drying effect of the medicine more tolerable

The National Institute of Health estimates that over 10 million American suffer with TMJ or some chronic jaw pain. Many of these TMJ sufferers find relief in therapeutic massage. Massage is a non-invasive, drug-free method of relaxing the pressure points around the jaw, and working the muscles in the area to relieve the tension.

TMJ or temporomandibular joint disorder covers an array of joint disorders all collectively referred to as TMJ. TMJ is characterized by a dull, transient ache in jaw joint and surrounding areas. The pain can extend to the ear, present as a headache or neck, shoulder or back pain.

By working on key areas affected by the TMJ, massage can release trigger points and ease muscle tension, giving clients much needed relief.

“I work on the outside of the mouth, right underneath the jawbone. I will ask a client to relax their mouth so it falls open, then I work right on the trigger point on the joint just below the ear,” explained Patty.

Patty has found that using the combination of releasing the trigger points around the jaw and back of the head along with tissue massage of the muscles in the area will generally bring relief to TMJ sufferers.
